  1. They should reproduce without any problem in that size, but I'm not sure I would want to deal with them in such a tiny enclosure. The nymphs spend most their time below surface but the adults enjoy being topside and can climb very well and fly. While the adults don't tend to just fly out they will fly down should they say hit the top of the rim of something. In such a small space it just seems like it would be annoying trying to keep the adults in while doing stuff in the enclosure. I would probably look for something with a bit more vertical space for that reason.

  2. Nope, not a typo. lol I've currently got a few P.expansus "Orange" individuals that I'm trying to start a culture with and a couple are already about 1 inch (not including uropods) and they're only slightly over half way grown. The various Spanish Porcellio spp. are the largest you're going to find with Porcellio magnificus standing on top at 2 inches or slightly longer. Porcellio hoffmannseggi, Porcellio hassi "Super Giant", and Porcellio expansus "Orange" are some of the other notably impressive Spanish isopods as far as length goes (although nearly all of them are larger than the biggest species that can be found in the U.S lol) . Also, yes, all of the aforementioned species fetch $100+ per 10 individuals.

  3. I've just been measuring my roaches and my javanica definitely grow to about 5.5-6cm, a big male or female can get quite large. However they are nowhere near as big as say a Gromphadorhina oblongonota - some of my biggest oblongonota males are over 8cm and they are built like tanks too! However oblongonota aren't that variable - they do have variations in the markings on their backs but these are not obvious from a distance, so probably would not fit your criteria. For what it's worth I've attached a photo of a large female trying to climb the glass of her cage next to a tape measure showing she's at least 5.5cm long, and a photo of a group with a few red-pronotum individuals (two females at the bottom and right of the group) with some black pronotum and nymphs. Neither photo is particularly good I'm afraid - I was trying to hold my phone and a torch to light them and take a photo at the same time before they all scuttled off under the cork bark and fake plants! It might be worth considering hybrid Gromphadorhina portentosa if you are not bothered about whether they are a pure strain - mine (I am guessing they are hybrid) are very variable in both the base colour, and the amount of black markings on the abdomen and pronotum, and they definitely get bigger than the javanica.

  5. It's a very interesting shape. The females remind me of little tanks. Ah, okay. That's what I suspected, but I wasn't sure!
