  1. If the chick feed has animal protein check the others along with horse feed. I have no clue on protein amounts on any of them but I wouldn't think there would be animal in the herbivore food, but you never know.
  2. If there are any feed stores/farm supply stores near you check em out. I'm not sure for veggie only but my first thought would be rabbit food. You could also check the ingredient lists for chicken, cow, sheep, and goat feed. You could also check pond fish food there but the fish food I use does have some animal protein. I think the chick feed runs between 16% - 20% protein. Usually you can get feed in 40 - 50 lbs bags at a fairly cheap price.
  3. I don't use heat mats. I use an oil filled electric radiator type room heater during the winter and have the ac vent for the room blocked off for the summer. my daytime high gets to 80 -85f and night time low is about 75. My colony has grown a lot but i started with far more from 3 or 4 sources. 1 of those sources I got a lot of mature females so that helped a lot.
  4. Oh btw if you have any feed stores near you, you could go there and buy chicken grower food fairly cheap. I've read and heard it used by quite a few. It's where I get my pond fish food that only cost me $15 for 40lbs, and around where i live chick grower food is like $10 - $15 a bag too.
  5. How many do you have? The more you have the more likely you'll see them eat. My colony is on the larger size now and I feed it about every other day. When feeding I can watch them moving down the egg crates toward the food. They swarm the dry food first then spread out toward the fresh fruits and veggies. You could mix in dry dog, cat, or fish food if you want. My mix is Pond fish food and whatever leftover cereal i have at the time.
  6. Your list looks fine. Oranges are not bad for them its orange oil that could cause problems and that's in the skin. I feed mine half an orange or more every other day and they eat everything but the peel, and haven't had any problems yet.
  7. They like oranges, zucchini, grapefruit, and sweet potato too
  8. What species are you making the setup for and what is your room temps?
  9. all the Gromphadorhina hybrids are just as fertile as purebeed as far as I've heard and will keep makeing hybrids.
  10. Blaberus, Eublaberus, and Parcoblatta is what I would be using the wood for i was mainly wondering if any of these are known to be harmful to roaches or if they are all ok.
  11. could try the forms, and then there's roach crossing, bugs in cyberspace, cape cod roaches, ebay, and lots more
  12. Over the next few days I'll be cutting down some maple, box elder, and mulberry saplings. I plan on saveing some of these to use in my roach bins since i think all are ok for them. I also need to cut back some blackberry canes, honeysuckle, and roses are all of these ok to feed to roaches?
  13. I do like the looks of the Arenivaga G. lurida yellow or G. caffrorum are a likely possibility. These look neat. Thanks for the replies I'll have to read up on all of these to see if I'm confident in trying them.
  14. Thanks for the answers. I was reading on Roach Crossing that P. fulvescens don't burrow. Do other Parcoblatta burrow like P divisa and P. lata?
  15. I'm thinking about getting S lateralis to use as feeders for mt tarantulas and scorpions buy was wondering if any of the Parcoblatta would breed fast enought to use instead?
  16. Now that its warmed up I'm trying to decide what to get next. Currently I have G. portentosa, B. dubia, E. posticus, B. sp. Venezuela, and B. cf. chacoensis. I'm planing on getting S. lateralis to use as feeders for my tarantulas and scorpions and would like to get a couple other species to keep as pets. The only real requirement is they need to be able to be used as feeders for population control. I also have a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko and 2 crested geckos.
  17. I keep my G. portentosa pretty dry and as for heat. I use 1 of those oil filled electic radiator type heater in the room i keep my roaches, tarantulas and scorpions and shoot for 80 degrees. My temps range from about 77 to 82 in that room and in the summer i have the ac blocked in that room so i get highs between 80 - 85 and night time lowes never got below 75 last summer. Like Hisserdude already said if you only have a few they just don't eat a lot.
  18. thanks Allpet Roaches. With fusca being first what else would be in the top 3 or 4?
  19. I'm was wondering what are the fastest breeding / growing Blaberus sp. commonly avalible?
  20. thanks for the ID. Yes i caught them in an unused flowerbed at one end of my house i was surprised they were still out and about. They really enjoyed the pecan leaves they ate all of them before eating much of the maple leaves. I have 2 more containers so I might go out and look for more and isolate the orange ones.
  21. finally got some pics had to crop it to make the file size fit here
  22. I collected maple, pecan, and pear leaves and set up the container with coconut fiber and mulched leaves then put maple and pecan leaves on the top. I also found some isopods in an unused flower bed i'll try to get pics later to post for an id. thanks for the help so far.
