  1. Which species of hisser cockroach should I get? I am looking at it from the following three- -Common hissers (the 1970 cleaveland aquarium stock) -Halloween hissers -G oblongtoa hissers How are each of these three and which one is the best? Looking for something that I can sorta hold with gloves on as well as something that is largeish but breeds sorta quick with heat.
  2. It's to feed my emperor scorpions/centipedes. I do like dubias but they aren't too handle able.
  3. I do have an empty 20 qt tub and I'd like to have a larger feeder roach for them. Was thinking if hissers can be feeders/if they'll reproduce quickly enough.
  4. Would a 6 quart shoebox be sufficient for a nice feeder colony of banana roaches? I'm trying to produce three types of banana roaches for mantises (nivea, sp giant, sp speckled).
  5. For males of magnifica, I can just store them at room temp so the females can mature first right? Ditto with pygmea?
  6. It does help. Doesn't the males mature way quicker than the females?
  7. Nymphs. I'm feeding hisser nymphs to tarantulas, large mantises, centipedes, scorpions, geckos maybe....
  8. I am considering doing a pure clean hisser roach colony or the largest hissing roach colony (as I have red runners and bananas). Would they make good feeders (for like large animals)? 20 quart plastic tub will be used.
  9. Separate. I would do five gallons but there's none online that is worth shipping and I don't really have a load of room (only 36x18x14 inches of space) and I'm raising discoid roaches.
  10. Could three gallon box enclosures work for green banana roaches and red runner roaches? Both are separated.
  11. Hmm I can tell your kind of referring to the guy that died in a roach eating contest to get a ball python (6,000 dollar). Roaches are allergenic, and that sometimes people get allergic to them in large amounts.
  12. More females mean more babies and that male is sure to feel quite comfortable.
  13. I was planning on raising little kenyan roaches, could they be raised in 32 ounce deli containers? Any care info for them?
  14. Could I mix regular green banana roaches, giant banana roaches and porcelain roaches in a 32 quart bin? It has substrate and that there are springtails, isopods and bumblebee millipedes that will be in it.
  15. Looks like from one of our sister forums is that they might change the permitting system. https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=APHIS-2008-0076 And please, make relevant and logical comments. Also, if enough people say stuff like that, then there is going to be change as they might be able to get some of us, but they can't get several hundred thousand people. People have already commented, one of them being for butterflies (tropical) and several allegedly being for snails. It is mainly snails and soil related, but add some ones about insects. The more the merrier. You can also be anonymous too.
  16. With the heating cable, I recommend using electrical tape, packaging tape, or aluminum tape. As long as the cables are spaced apart sufficiently and that they don't touch each other, your good. No, I have quite frankly an aquarium and a roach colony and they are all plugged in and no fire occurred. Now, there are heat pads, flexwatt heat tape, using a heating blanket, etc.
  17. I got at least 100 sub-adult roaches from an ebay seller. I asked her if they are pure and she said they were. Now, how would I tell the difference between discoid roaches that are pure and hybrid.
  18. I just got said enclosure heated via heat cable. I just discovered that heat cables make great heating elements.
  19. Blaberus giganteus seems interesting. Along with rhino roaches.
  20. Any good enclosures for them? I am running low on space due to my large discoid colony (12 gallons). Any methods of sorting out them? Any examples?
