I've switched him over to eco-earth as a substrate. Hopefully he will eat for me again sometime soon. I'm worried! It's been like two weeks now. -

Anyone? He still hasn't eaten -
I found an emperor scorpion in appalling conditions and rescued it. It has a heater on one side of its glass enclosure, substrate, multiple hiding places, and a bowl of non-tap water at all times. I don't know if it is male or female, or if it is mature. I've had it for about a week and a half. I fed it a Simandoa nymph and it ate the whole thing. [I have a very prolific female, so I kind of had to do that unfortunately.] A few days later, I gave him or her an adult Dubia female and s/he ate the whole thing. It took hours, but nothing was left. That was one week ago. I am worried because it does not seem to want to eat now. I have offered it a Simandoa nymph again, a Halloween Hisser, and even an adult female Dubia again, but he has not eaten anything. Even when the roach walks right into his claws and in direct proximity to his mouth parts, he turns around and seems uninterested or flustered. I thought maybe the adult female Dubia was too big, even though he ate all of her a week ago, but s/he doesn't seem to want anything smaller either, such as the Halloween or Simandoa nymph. I'm so worried because I wanted to take this scorpion in to give it a better life. I'm worried I am neglecting it in some way. Am I doing something wrong? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-ssHPbT6m3IvLPpmjb2DR_XXSlz6n44-/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-pzDElXpWjHSuulXYTVi9hgYE6teN1Dr/view?usp=sharing

Difficulties sexing nymphs even when they're large?
aoikirin replied to aoikirin's topic in General Blattodea Discussions
Oh thank goodness there's precedent. I thought I was going bonkers! -
I've never had this problem before! I need to sex my Simandoa nymphs to separate them to prevent further matings, but every single nymph I check seems male based on the ventral segments. I'm not sure of the exact instar they are but most of them have to be four or five if not even six! They can't all be male can they? I know some species like Therea petiveriana tend to have higher ratio of males. Any ideas?

Need help with Simandoa Conserfariam
aoikirin replied to aoikirin's topic in Breeding and Nymph Issues
Wow so they have a really long gestation? -
I've had an adult male and female together now for many months and I've yet to see any babies. I changed their substrate today and verified the lack of babies. They get carrots, oranges, dried cat food, water crystals, and powered dubia food. They have a heater. I don't want to breed them to sell or anything, I would just like to have some when my two adults die. What am I doing wrong ?

I got all of the items. Super cute! -
I don't mean because of having a huge number of them in a small container with rotting dead. I mean more which species have a smell in general even with a clean enclosure. The only species I have where I've noticed an odor is my container of male Aeuluropoda Insignis a.k.a. flat horn hissers. Their enclosure has a strong smell. I won't say it's horrible, but it's definitely musty. I have females of the species in a different enclosure and I don't find they smell at all. Weird right.
