  1. Freshly moulted female: Male with interesting head pattern: Striped female: Black female:
  2. Thanks. I have fake plants in my tanks. I would love to have a beautiful planted tank I'm not so good at growing plants. Fake ones look ok though. If I find a cheap 20 gallon tank I might transfer my dubias into it with the egg crates just so I can see them better. Here's a pic of one of my split tanks: Here's my blaberus fusca tank.
  3. Thanks. I figured out how to make it work. I just inserted the IMG Code from Photobucket instead of clicking the insert image button above. For some reason it times out when I try to post it that way.
  4. Here's what I have so far. I'm starting to collect smaller species because I'm running out of space in my bug room p. nivea G. Lurida A. tesselata L. subcinta b. fusca b. dubia b. fumigata b. craniifer b. lateralis e. chopardi r. maderae t. grangeani
  5. Thanks, I'll have to check out that paper. I also noticed they won't go above a certain height. Any cage above 4 feet doesn't have mites. I moved my dubia tank up higher and there's no mites in there either. Might have something to do with temp or humidity.
  6. I used to buy food specifically for my roaches but now I just feed them whatever I have in the kitchen. Tonight they're eating popcorn, broccoli, orange, porkrinds and peanut butter.
  7. I was only able to post one photo in the gallery. I've been trying for a few days to put up another one but I keep getting this error: "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\bidabug.org\httpdocs\Forum\sources\classes\bbcode\class_bbcode_core.php on line 780" Is anyone else having problems?
  8. That's awesome! I hope to get some more next month to get a good colony going.
  9. Thanks. That's a good idea. I never thought about doing that.
  10. I like bidabug.org. I've sold a few books on there so far.
  11. Ok. It was pretty hot this weekend so that might be why. I'll raise the humidity and hopefully the rest will be able to moult ok.
  12. I don't get as many of these since I started using fresh grain and added more ventilation to my roach tanks. But I still have them and they like to pile up on top of the tanks when I spray them. Is there a way I can kill these things? I thought rubbing alcohol might work as long as my roaches aren't near it. I know they're not harmful they're just annoying especially when there's lots of em in one spot.
  13. Roaches with substrate require a bit less cleaning unless you get the food mixed in with the substrate. I used to dump popcorn in my lateralis tank and they would eat most of it except for the kernals and hard parts but then I got grain mites which were pretty gross so I had to clean out the tank and put fresh substrate in. I now keep ALL food in a food dish just to be safe.
  14. I had a p. nivea get stuck in a moult this weekend. I was wondering if I might have had the humidity to high (or low). What humidity do you guys keep yours at?
  15. That's so cool. I know we have several species here in CA but I live in northern CA so they're harder to find. I would love to go T hunting one day!
  16. Who here keeps their roaches in naturalistic tanks? Most of my roaches are in naturalistic tanks at the moment except for my dubias. They're just in a rubbermaid bin with egg cartons. I'm thinking about moving them to a different tank though because they're so fun to watch. I just have to figure out something that looks natural but has lots of hide spots like egg crates. Any suggestions?
  17. Hi everyone! My name is Rachel. I have several species of roaches and am trying to grow my collection. My very first pet bug that I ever bought was a hissing roach and I've been hooked ever since. This looks like a great new forum. I look forward to getting to know the rest of you bug people.
  18. I noticed a difference with the citrus fruits. My dubia really like oranges and it seems like I have more babies pop out when I put the oranges in. I put oranges in once a week and let them stay in for a few days. They also really like banana but not squash or sweet potato too much for some reason. I'm still experimenting with different fruits and veggies. None of my roaches like mushrooms.
  19. So you're the one who created bugsincyberspace! There's a lot of cool stuff on that site! It's great to have you here! :-)
