American Cockroach Care?
Tleilaxu replied to Absolute Nausea's topic in General Blattodea Discussions
Nope, I enjoy them as pets, quite cheeky little roaches, and accomplished hunters too. -

I found some surinam roaches! Pycnoscelus surinamensis.
Tleilaxu replied to Betta132's topic in General Blattodea Discussions
Um this species is parthenogenetic, sometimes rarely you will get a sterile male, but that's unlikely. Keep them as a separate colony, they will eat the babies of other roaches. @Hisserdude -
periplaneta australasiae, americana, or another species of the genus.
-
Hopefully you get back before I get restarted in the hobby. Good luck.
-
Yes, babies will just die for no apparent reason, it's the chance we take when raising such little ones, and realistically, not all are meant to survive, lest we be overrun with all sorts of critters.

That's awesome, maybe these massive roaches will finally become more common. -
Still waiting on the details to get the smuggling operation underway. I don't want to move money to PayPal unless I'm gonna use it. #PeriplanetaForHisserDude

I'm guessing someone needs to head to where they have been found in New York and catch a lot of them...
-
Indeed, he just needs the proper "motivation" to get these most glorious of roaches.
-
It's fine, can't have too many Periplaneta threads. Glad to see some REAL roaches

I will help foot the bill for such a noble cause. @vfox it's time for pics of your collection, I'm going through Periplaneta withdrawal. -
I've found several Periplaneta species in the house while I was down in Florida, most were on the verge of dying due to dehydration and starvation. Some were to far gone to save. A majority of the ones I caught were outside. Blattella is a lot more hardy.

I'd get some Periplaneta species, or red runners, the "roachy roaches" are interesting captives as well, with Periplaneta americana having a very bold personality. And to think a few short months ago I was nervous about keeping them.
