Those are awesome.

Can a helpful mod delete my attachments from my profile? I for some reason cannot do so.

Um this species is parthenogenetic, sometimes rarely you will get a sterile male, but that's unlikely.
Â
Keep them as a separate colony, they will eat the babies of other roaches.

periplaneta australasiae, americana, or another species of the genus.
-
Hopefully you get back before I get restarted in the hobby. Good luck.

Yes, babies will just die for no apparent reason, it's the chance we take when raising such little ones, and realistically, not all are meant to survive, lest we be overrun with all sorts of critters.
-
Not mine, but you will get the idea.

I like the fact people are trying to keep and maintain pure wild strains. Keep us posted.

Watching them hunt crickets was amusing. They never lasted long.

That's awesome, maybe these massive roaches will finally become more common.

He had some tragic events this year so it'll take some time for him to get back into business.Â
Still waiting on the details to get the smuggling operation underway. I don't want to move money to PayPal unless I'm gonna use it.

I'm guessing someone needs to head to where they have been found in New York and catch a lot of them...

@Hisserdude you know you want some.Â
Indeed, he just needs the proper "motivation" to get these most glorious of roaches.

It's fine, can't have too many Periplaneta threads.

Glad to see some REAL roaches

I will help foot the bill for such a noble cause.

@vfox it's time for pics of your collection, I'm going through Periplaneta withdrawal.

Now, if a large zoo dares to call roaches "immortal" and "gross" when the insects involved are harmless hissers, I'd be a bit mad. Even the "pest" roach (no insect is truly a pest) Periplaneta americana is pretty pathetic at home invasion. I think this is also the case with all the other house-dwelling species that are not Blattella germanica.
I believe @Tleilaxu has actually managed to find and rescue a dying P. australasiae that was starving and dehydrated in his house.
Â
Anyways...
Â
I checked the website carefully for any signs of anti-roach bias, and they didn't use any insulting words to describe their hissers; this is good. The one complaint I have is that they failed to say anything particularly positive about the roaches either, and seemed to passively allow whatever false beliefs the visitors hold about roaches to continue uncontradicted.
Â
Â
Â
PS: I would love a plush hisser, though I'm hoping it wasn't anthropomorphized.
I've found several Periplaneta species in the house while I was down in Florida, most were on the verge of dying due to dehydration and starvation. Some were to far gone to save. A majority of the ones I caught were outside.
Blattella is a lot more hardy.

Glad you are able to get more roaches now, these are definitely a species every cockroach enthusiast should have!
So are Periplaneta, but I don't see you keeping them.
Congratulations on the babies.

I'd get some Periplaneta species, or red runners, the "roachy roaches" are interesting captives as well, with Periplaneta americana having a very bold personality.
And to think a few short months ago I was nervous about keeping them.

Nope, I enjoy them as pets, quite cheeky little roaches, and accomplished hunters too.
