So i was wondering if any of you keep dermestid beetles, and If you do, how so? I'm looking at them for cleaning small animal skulls and bones. I've been reading a lot on them. Would really like some input from some keepers. Thanks alot

I feed mine, dog food, cat food, fruits, veggies, fish flake, left over’s. Um yeah great pets they really keep me from throwing out anything. I’ve used them to clean out of jelly jars and what not too (of course I wash it when their done.)

Everyone talks about ivorys for this but I'm just starting my ivorys however my blatta lats seem to eat everything i throw in there. Why wouldn't they work for it? Has it been studied? I know they are considered a pest in some areas. Just questions.

i've used vaseline it works ok and yes it can be messy. cooking grease, spoiled and smelled bad... oil ran and made a huge mess on cleaning. the best i've used came from Aaron Pauling but he like never has it anymore. So i stay with the messy vaseline now. as far as teflon mats id be afraid of them crawling under it where its glued down, or any gaps, but i've have never tried it.

i do the same wash scrub, but i bake mine in the oven for 10-20 min at 350 F making sure to watch it so it doesn't catch fire. just to kill anything that may live through the scrub that i don't want.

Ranched usually means the set up of a large breeding number with the purpose of collecting for sale as food or pet.

They can infest a house, but for them to do so you would have to have leaky pipes, and alot of garbage ext. I've kept them for awhile and have never issues even with a few escapes. They don't climb i've heard males can fly but have never seen it happen except when i dropped one then it kinda flutter fell. I feed them to my leopard geckos, Tokay geckos, and tarantulas. and I still have to buy them because they don't breed fast enough for me . A Plus is their movement drives all my animals wild .

many other country's eat insects. I have tried some an they are not bad but i wouldn't call it my fav food lol. Mealworms aren't that bad fried with a little sugar. Some places cook tarantulas but i couldn't do it just because i own a few and would feel bad lol. I ate a Hisser on a dare, didn't really have a taste to it but the legs made my gums bleed. I think people should have a open mind to food in general. Just because its different to us dost make it bad ya know? As far as a roach for food i agree with Blatta Lats just because of the nutritional value

So i was thinking today. I like dark warm places, I'm the most active at night, and i cant fly or climb. I think this is why have gotten into such a interest roaches (even though some can fly an climb). What makes you most interested in them?

yeah i got 2 girls. they are both lots of fun. one is what id call semi tame, the other would rather bite then let me even put food in lol.
