    hi

Welcome..you have a some great species already...I'm sure you'll find a wealth of info here on the boards.... there are a ton of great species availiable... Have fun, Graham
  2. Welcome...I recognize you from Arachnoboards... You'll really dig this fourm... Graham
  3. My glowspots are really turning out great. They seem like they'll be an EXTREMELY popular PET roach once they get established enough... Medium size... slow moving...bright colors (on the males)....live birth...long lived... Can't ask for much more in a roach!
  4. Welcome... I'm a herper also...many roach species make a wonderful alternative to crickets as feeders... I personally believe they are far superior. Theres a bunch of fun "pet quality" species also.... Nice to have you here. Graham
  5. Matt, I gotta say, this is still one of my favorite pics that you have posted... a prime example of a black wing craniifer... beautiful!
  6. Awesome Brian...good luck with them...they should flourish like most tityus... once they start popping out babies you should have your hands full. Nice to see you here on the board Brian... maybe we can get you addicted to roaches now- lol. Yep Chris, the tityus falconinsis pair is doing great...the female is plump...she should be gravid... hopefully she'll pop soon.
  7. I just finished adding the Dwarf White Isopods to all my colonies other than the pholyphaga and the Panesthia (Yes, I finally got a couple of young P. a. spadica).... They should work out just perfectly...with deep wood/leaf/coco fibre substrate in all my cages, the isopods whould have enough moisture (might just have to burry down a tad deeper as the cages dry out)...
  8. Like the others have said...Very nice pics.... Looks like you have some great species! Graham
  9. Great idea Matt...I look at the BCG list all the time. I would participate... let me know if you need an updated list from me. Graham
  10. Welcome- Nice to have you onboard!
  11. A friend and myself headed down to Del Rio saturday afternoon and hunted a few hours...today we got up and hunted another hour...back home already... We found a ton of stuff.... check out the link to all the pics... http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=102526
  12. Matt...Is that bottom picture a Aeluropoda insignis? Do you have A. insignis? If so I am SOOOO JEALOUS.... I'm trying to track some down... GREAT PICTURES... very impressive collection. Graham
  13. I had some leftover pineapple the other day and tried it (thinking about the same thing that Roachsmith did-lol)... only a few of my colonies messed with the small piece I placed in each cage. Suprisingly- It looked like the rhino roaches chewed on the piece a bit... hmmm... all my colonies are still small though so this could have something to do with it. Graham
  14. I've had them in the past. I used to keep them in a larger tupperware with ~3" of the cocofibre bedding. Like everyone said above...VERY SLOW growing... they are well worth the wait. I had finally given up on getting nymphs and then one day while feeding them I found some... just took longer than expected to establish the colony. They are awesome roaches- large size..handleable- and just palin: pretty. Good luck with them- you'll really like this species.
  15. It's nice to have a few "display" tanks of your favorite species, but the bucket cages are great on saving space.
  16. Crittergu, have you used the bucket cages before? I have NEVER had a problem with nymphs or adults waiting to escape...I've used the bucket cages for probably 5 years now with a ton of different species...
  17. You should really do a google search for 'Panesthia australis"... here is one page I found with a few pics: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/822/
  18. Nice Matt- Classic looking critter. The "hissing roaches" really are an amazing group of roaches... I guess because people see them so much in the hobby that get downplayed alot (regular hissers...not the tiger hissers)...kinda like emperor scorpions...overlooked/underrated species... beautiful picture!
  19. Great Matt... 2- 2.5 years isn't that bad (kinda like a kingsnake- lol)... Graham
  20. I'll go all the way on these guys... I think that after a few months with the parental stock they should be ok (might not grow as fast), but heck, Panesthia take almost as long as Macropanesthia to mature anyways I believe... Hopefully I'll be able to get a few.

  22. I normally just use the cheap "snap on" lids BUT I do have one screw top lid. A military/camping surplus site called Chaeper Than Dirt sells screw on lids (the thread part snaps onto the top of the bucket)...I really need to invest in more of them...they work MUCH easier...

    Welcome Glenn....
  24. I found this using a google search- Not Panesthia but close.... kinda answers my question... "The objective of this study was to measure the possible effects of prolonged parental care on offspring growth in Korean wood-feeding cockroaches, Cryptocercus kyebangensis. In the field-caught subsocial woodroaches of C. kyebangensis, offspring with both parents were greater in both head width and body weight than those with single parents. Manipulation experiments showed that offspring separated from their parents could survive independently without parents, but they grew more rapidly when they remained with their parents. In particular, the effects of parental care on offspring growth were found to be stronger in groups with both parents than those with single parents. These results suggest that the prolonged parental care evolved in Cryptocercus has a significant impact on offspring growth."
