Greetings! I am in need of a few pictures of Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches for a website! I'm just more than slightly obsessed with my roaches (I'm sure anyone who's kept roaches is.) and I'd like to put a few pictures on the site. I'm also doing the site so I can practice my newly-learned HTML skillz! I, being the typical overly-obsessed teenager insect nerd, don't have a custom domain as of yet, however I would still like to make it appear as nice as possible (Even if it's a .blogspot domain, doesn't matter. Aesthetical pleasure + professional content = good website.) So, I need a picture of several cockroaches. - I need permission to use your pictures (I'll still credit you of course.) and - I need the picture to be of satisfactory quality (Not blurry, not grainy, good definition.)

No, he wasn't old. Very young, actually. 5th instar. Much disappointment. To preserve a roach you can stick him in a jar filled with 70-90 percent Isopropyl alcohol. That's what I did with Cornelius.

My roach loves strawberry with honey on it. I probably wasted way too many strawberries on him lol.

I just now went outside and found a bunch of sticks and branches, and am freezing them for 72 hours to get the bacteria and mold killed. Thank you for your intelligence, of which I appear to lack.

Greetings and welcome! This forum is a great source for amassing knowledge on roached, but don't get mad if you don't get replies right away. The roach forums don't get as much traffic as other pet forums, because roaches aren't the most common of pets. Welcome! And have fun!

Every day, he'll try to climb the sides of the tank, and he will flip himself over. I've come in and rescued him several times, but he just keeps doing it! He's healthy, eating, and active. But he keeps flipping himself over. Is there any way I can prevent this or have him climb on something else? Because if he keeps this up, he'll be dead soon. I don't want him dead. Has anyone else any experience with this?

Maybe you should feed him less food. Some animals will eat as much of available food as they can. In the wild, the animal doesn't know when the next meal will be available, so it'll eat as much as it can whenever it can. Meaning that if you feed it more food, he's going to eat larger portions.

Much interesting! However, they also use drooling as a defense, as if to say "My spit tastes bad! Don't eat me!"

Dried dog food is definitely recommended as part of their diet. I feed my roach dog food and fruit, which fully completes his nutritional requirements. Just make sure the dog food doesn't have a ton of meat in it, as roaches will stink a lot more when they're fed meat. Personal experience.

But aren't Phothos plants poisonous? I have a few sitting around that I could put in there, but I know they are very poisonous. Are they not poisonous to insects? I'm not an expert on roaches.

My pet roach just received a MAJOR house upgrade, a huge reptile terrarium tank with not only a screen lid but also opening doors! He also has a hydrometer and a thermometer, and a heat-lamp. His enclosure, however, is looking a bit boring with only a bark burrow for his amusement. I was wondering what plants would be good to put in there. They would need to: Be safe for him to eat, should he get hungry. Live a long time (I don't want to replace plants every month. I want plants that will last.) Grow quickly. Look attractive. Be able to grow well with low light and temperatures from 70-80. Does anyone know of any plants that would do well?

Blueberries tend to mold faster than any of the other things I put in with my roach. There have been times where they've molded up in just a few hours, and blueberries are the only things I've ever had mold on, considering I've fed him a wide variety of things, I believe this observation to be legitimate.

Hello, Is there any practical purpose to keeping isopods? Do they really have any benefit to roaches?

I will definitely have fun. I will have to do some research, definitely. Roaches are definitely totally one of the coolest pet's I've had. They're very docile for an insect, actually. How long do they usually live?

Good morning, roach forum! Greetings from the Midwest! I raise my roach, Cornelius, as a pet. He's in a 3 gallon tank, with about 1 1/2" of coconut fiber, and a large piece of bark for him to hide under and climb on. I got him from the local University, which has a very large "Insect Zoo", and they were selling Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches for $5, which, according to google, is 3.22 English Pounds (For you awesome international freak people dudes out there.) Anyhow, yeah. When I got him, he was in a little cup thing. I'll try to get a picture up! So, I've joined the forums because apparently there's an entire community for roaches. I'd not the slightest idea many people kept them. The worst part, though, is everyone think's I'm gross because I keep a roach - I'm fighting the stereotype! I remind people that there are over 3,500 species of roach, only 25 of which are known to cause problems.
