  1. This is her pic today kinda calico action happening.
  2. I found this female who recently molted the first pic is how I found her 2 days ago I have better pics but can't post them here second will be what she looks like today. Will she darken up more or is this her color? Fairly sure she's unmated which is exciting.
  3. Standard dog food it was molding a little quick and now they are on Cheerios which are oats. I havnt really done anything different than what I would do for other roaches. I'm wondering are the newly hatched nymphs known escape artists? How small are their new born nymphs compared to new born lateralis size or new born b germanica. Maybe the mesh was to large in their first enclosure.
  4. I think pepper roaches are good to they get big and pretty calm/slow as adults nymphs arnt much fun since they are shy and like to burrow. The wait for adults is worth it though.
  5. I typically use carrot apple mellon or lettuce. I will switch them back to canalope maybe that will do the trick.
  6. Oh dang I normally don't get into isopods but these guys are great
  7. I'm not sure how many females I can check tomorrow the whole group has about a hundred adults. It was 30 adults when I got the group september of last year. So it's been about 4 months at least with no young yet.
  8. Oh yeah I forgot about that luckily there's 3 inches of substrate. So they are pretty safe. Takeing the over tank heater has dropped the temp to 75. There hasn't been any more loses of ootheca and all the roaches seem happier.
  9. Thanks for the reply I moved them into a small container with tiny air holes so humidity should be higher now. I was really excited when I heard there was anouther spieces that could be raised on only eggcrate. Since digging threw dirt for nymphs to feed off is a pain. I can definitely add some leaves though. Any clue why no signs of any breeding? Do they have any food preferences?
  10. Well offering them for free on Craigslist in the pet section will be pretty easy. There's always the freezer instead of leaving it to chance for them to freeze outside take out the males and put the rest in a small container in the freezer leave them in for 24 hours.
  11. So I changed things up with my pepper roaches they were in a big bin with a heat pad on the side in the living room so they have been in the cool side. Last week I put the females and 3 males in a 10 gallon that is heated by undertank heater and heat lamp above on the same side. It has a thermostat in the 10 gallon and it reads 80 if I had to guess on the bin it's probably been around 65-70 which is our room temp. So today I check the aquarium and find 3 aborted ootheca. Is 80 to high or are they in a way reseting to breed at this higher temp? If I keep the ootheca at room temp any chance they will hatch?
  12. I would like to point out that experience with captive inverts like many other spieces is different than what they would do out in nature. An example would be bearded dragons and hognose snakes raised in captivity don't perform their famous defensive displays. Desert environments are the hardest to replicate in fact most people don't know the difference between high desert and low desert. High elevation deserts have abundant air humidity however fast wind coming off mountains prevents the formation of clouds so no rain. That's probably where these roaches are found. Its really difficult to replicate these conditions a custom 100 gal tank would be required. I would suggest seeing if there are people who grow high elevation desert plants in vivariums they would have the best info how to build an enclosure that can replicate that environment. Luckily roaches are pretty adaptable to captive conditions. Hopefully there will be some one who can awnser your questions. Try Kyle at roachcrossing.com he's very slow to reply but very knowledgeable. Its been a week since I emailed him and no reply yet. Best of luck and we look forward to hearing more about your research project.
  13. There's this one to I think the pics are from Borneo got to visit one day
  14. Very cool I have been wanting some of these guys for awhile I love seeing pics of them and knowing they are getting around.
  15. Welcome to the hobby and forum I'm sure you will find it quite addicting. I know your not into colonys for now but maybe consider a large feeder spieces like discoid, orange head, or even dubia when you do get into colonys. I use the money I make selling dubia to buy more pet spieces. It feels very rewarding knowing the care I put into my roaches brings me more roaches. If your looking just for males I have to many male pepper roaches they are big and cool. Hope you enjoy the forums lots of great people here
  16. Cool that looks like fun. Very cool setup.
  17. Hi I got a group of pallids a 2 months back and still not seeing baby's they had adults in the original group. From what I read they give birth every 2 weeks so I'm stumped. They were originally in a small container with substrate for about a month then moved to larger empty bin with just eggcrate. They are warm around 80 fed well. I havnt seen even one nymph no evidence of cannibalism like half eaten baby or even small sheds. I heard these guys breed out of control what gives?
  18. Many people prefer cork bark cause it generally doesn't mold as easy as other wood and lasts longer
  19. Ahh cool I thought they looked similar to milkweed bugs. Any chance you know what they eat I'm thinking I could try apples.
  20. Hi any one know who these are I found a lot of them. Also this .29mb pic size is crazy I have to crop over 90% of each pictures I take to post on here. There's no way to make my phone camera take smaller pics.
  21. Thanks I normally build forest oriented tanks I havnt built a desert one since I had leopard geckos seems like a fun challenge
  22. Then I can sift out dead roaches brilliant! Ok that is the winner not super pretty but I can make it work.
  23. I think they would do the job my only concern is I have personally witnessed dermestids hunt and kill week old crickets. Baby assassin's are about the same size. Are there people who sell specific spieces of dermestids? I'm cautious but curious it could be my solution.
