  1. I am new to roaches but I wanted share some more of my observations. My E. javanica have been enjoy some southern red oak branches and leaves that fell from an old tree in the backyard. The bark, lichens and mushrooms dissappear a little more each day. Relishing carrots. The pantanal just seem to prefer fish flakes and oats. They seldom touch veggies or fruit. Researching for a third species.....
  2. I just found 2 females, mine are moulting like crazy it would appear
  3. it seems some pics I see of these the adults are black, red and white while others are brown, orangish red and cream. Is the variation common or are the darker pics a little altered?
  4. I so want the ladybug mimic. They don't seem to be in culture anywhere
  5. He seems to be having trouble communicating lately
  6. I am thinking the Kenyan is the next species on my list. Although I am very interested to see the 30 new species roach crossing is adding "soon".
  7. Here's mine. A 20 gallon high for my E. javanica and a sterlite 20 quart for my pantanal. The heat that radiates out the top of the heat lamp heats up the pantanals. The only problem with the tank is there is a lot of space in there for 26. Going to take a while to fill it.
  8. Yeah it was wierd. I was hoping it was just a fluke. The rest seem fine now that they are in their permanent home. I just hated losing a female.
  9. Wow auto corrected mail to male lol
  10. I had a E. javanica that molted into an adult the night I received them in the male. The next few days it's back leg on one side was stuck to the plastic and even if I helped remove it it would just get stuck again. She did die. Any ideas what was the problem?
  11. I do have a start of E. javanica I can use eventually. Now that I think about it they only seem to climb if you disturb them greatly.
  12. So this pac man ( named mmmm butter) is a bit of a shy problem eater for me. The others I have eat in a feeding bowl or from tongs. This one will only eat crickets at night in his tank if left alone. My eventual plan is to feed my pacmans my eublaberus pantanal. However these will just dissappear into the substrate. Any ideas what non climbers would be less apt to vanish? Is lateralis the only choice? They might be too small after awhile.
  13. I remember treating in the basement of a penitentiary in Oh that had Americans. It was 90 degrees year round, the humidity was unreal, puddles of water on the floor and the lights on 24/7. They hung out on the massive pillars that supported the floor above and would just run to the back side when you approached. You could spend hours spraying them directly and see the same amount next week and no dead bodies the following week. The temps and humidity must have degraded the chemical quickly because I assumed they ate the dead bodies.
  14. I don't mind the climbing but if it can walk through window screening then......
  15. Funny I wish they would discover more small non climbers.
  16. I got my first species in November. The only reason why I only have 2 species is my attempts to acquire more have been thwarted. Unanswered address requests, lack of desired species or misrepresentation of available stock. The fact that you can keep the smaller species in small containers is a big attraction.
  17. So the real question is not what percent of this or that a roach needs but what does each species eat in the wild. For example, I have found over the years in my pigeon loft that a small population of parcoblatta pensylvanica. Nothing inside to eat but pigeon poop, feathers, whole grain dust and deteriorating wood.
  18. I did a no no and added bark and stuff straight from the woods so I am guess there were eggs or babies already there. I have Isopods, spring tails. Well then I will leave them then.
  19. I discovered harvestman hatchlings in my pantanal tank yesterday. Will these be a help or hindrance? At first I thought they might be good to prey on the small problematic pests(phorids and fungus gnats) but they would probably feed on the good cleaners as well. Kind of cool translucent little things.
  20. Thanks, I can usually find clusters of ants one the large flat rocks we use around my flower beds. Mostly pavement and odorous house ants.
  21. I got a good friend wanting to start a colony for his sons ant farm. Any tips on collecting? Preferred species to search for? Place that sells queens even?
  22. Might need to hang some mistletoe over their container
