  1. Thanks for the kind words everyone, they mean a lot to me coming from such admirable roach keepers as yourselves. Many thanks from Bill.
  2. Oh, I seeeeee. Thanks for the help. It will be nice to be able to say "well done" even when it is not convenient to write a full post. All the best from Bill
  3. Hi, I don't seem to be able to use the "Like" function here, is there a problem or do I have to earn the privilege or something? Cheers from Bill.
  4. Thanks. Looking at an adult feeding right now . . . somehow the simplicity of the markings mix with the glossy black and small size, so that I can't help but think of them as little living jewels . . . Yowzer! I need to get out more!!! All the best from Bill.
  5. Pink Collembola!

  6. I'll try and get a few pictures of my Loboptera decipiens tomorrow, if you still need them.
  7. Here's a picture of my planted Vivarium that houses my co!only of Loboptera decipiens. The Vivarium is custom made to my own design, it is an 8 Inch Cube. The lighting is a TMC 400 MINI TILE with four LED bulbs. The rig is at full power, and is on from 1.15PM until 10.15PM. The plants are watered by hand every day. On the left hand side is Sedum album, and behind the wood is Delospermum species. The leaf litter is Beech Tree.
  8. What sort of size are these at birth? All the best from Bill.
  9. We've had the first warm week after a long cold spring here in the UK. These guys seem to love it! Dozens of young nymphs parading around the Vivarium! A few months back I was on the verge of losing the colony, but there are plenty of young now, with a good few looking like they are close to maturity. They are really going nuts tonight, I'll try to get some pictures up soon. Mall the best from Bill.
  10. Hey Hisserdude, I had some success with these by offering flowers to sit on and feed on, and i supplemented the diet with a product called bee pollen, which is available from Apiarists or health food stores. I got two generations from my colony, before an accidental introduction of Blaberidae "Kenya" resulted in their being out competed. All the best from Bill.
  11. VERY Cute, but a pain in the neck to photograph, I have been trying but even the slightest movement startles them ATM. All the best from Bill.
  12. That's pretty cool and easy for schools and colleges to create, you could make a nice little class project resource from this. All the best from Bill.
  13. I saw quite a few babies over the last few days. Three different instars that start out orange and the oldest ones now have pale orange heads and black shiny butts. I suppose I should be all scientific and say black glossy abdomens, but they're too cute dash it all to heckery! I keep them at roughly 70 - 75%RH and they seem fine. They need a daily spray with an atomiser type bottle as they all come out to drink from the rocks and glass. I saw another mating taking place just now, and I've noted that the females can keep the Ootheca clasped to them for several days after laying. Mall the best from Bill.
  14. They remind me of these sweets I used to buy as a kid, they were called butter mints or something similar, they had that caramel candy colour like these guys, though the mints probably tasted better. That's my way of saying "cool roach, well done"! All the best from Bill.
  15. I have seen three ootheca and witnessed a mating twice since my last post, the babies are difficult to see as they hide all the time. These roaches can mate successfully at 75% humidity and above, and often drink water droplets at this humidity, so they can take a wide range of conditions successfully. My specimens like carrot most. All the best from Bill.
  16. My dry mix is a mix of rabbit pelleted food, dog Kibble, alfalfa powder, Spirulina powder, and dried herbs from the garden blended to a powder. You mix the powder with just enough water to mould into patties, or many roaches from drier areas will eat it dry. All the best from Bill.
  17. I've had roaches die from using too much Layer's Mash in the diet, it was causing too much calcium to build up. This manifested itself as high mortality at moulting time. Could it be that the gutload food is too high in calcium? All the best from Bill.
  18. I will keep the camera close to hand, just for you Hisserdude! It's feeding day on Wednesday, you never know your luck. All the best from Bill.
  19. Forwarding scientific knowledge of your local fauna, well done that man! All the best from Bill.
  20. Hey, do you specialise in this genus or is the area where you live very rich in species? All the best from Bill.
