  1. Yesterday when checking in my heavily pregnant female javanica I noticed she was not chunky anymore and thought she aborted her babies but instead I saw many nymphs suffering through the substrate! Finally after many months of no reproduction it has finally happend! (I will post photos if All-pet roaches website lets me)
  2. So, I just got these cuties today. I read a lot online about the care for these, but found a lot of different opinions. So I just wanted to know a little bit more about the proper care. Do I have to most them? If so how often? What's the best food for them? When do I know which sex they are? How is the rate for breeding? How long does it take for them to mature? And I'm thankful for any other tips
  3. So I had a few nymphs moult yesterday, and I noticed one looked... Well... Here’s a picture. Will he be okay? He’s a very solid roach, very fast too. He seems to have no trouble with socializing. In almost 200 roach nymphs, I have never seen a deformation quite like this. Is it a deformation? Or genetics? I’d absolutely love to know. I’m really curious, as he’s quickly becoming my new favorite dude.
  4. Ive suspected that three of my dubia females were pregnant but I wasn't too sure.... One day I found an aborted ootheca being eaten by the dubes. (Dubia + Dude.....lol) Last week (around a week after the first one) I found another ootheca being eaten. This morning at 2am my biggest female was acting weird and opening her vent super wide. At 8am I found the proud mama eating on the banana I put in just in case she did have babies with like twenty little white tic tacs running all over her. Theyre adorable! Does anyone have advice on how to get them out? The dubias I currently have were given to me as pets and I would like to keep it that way but I want to start a breeder colony just for fun. I want to separate the nymphs into a separate container but I dont want to hurt them? Last time I checked most of them were still white and I dont want to squish them. I also dont want them running up and off of my arms/hands. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks!
  5. Sorry. I’ve been on vacation in Florida.(I saw two Florida woods cockroaches!) Well... I’m back now! It turns out Layla’s ootheca has hatched! Yay!!! We officially have nymphs! I was very worried about one of the adults eating the egg case, but thankfully that never happened (um.... duh!) I found another cockroach lover named Joey who has become a good friend of mine. He will join our forum soon! Anyway, Marcus killed a few of his children. The rest are very healthy, tiny, and super cute! Hope everyone here is enjoying summer.
  6. I recently got a hissing cockroach and she was VERY large and i thought she was just a big roach but shes actually pregnant and i didnt want or expect it i cant raise them all to adulthood theres probably more than 30 what should i do
  7. I apologize if this is posted incorrectly I was literally just approved to use this website(and roach keeping in general) I am planning on getting two female gromphadorhina portentosas and maybe a male as well. Assuming that the female(s) will be...with child...upon arrival (I've read that that's common) then what do I do? I don't want to breed. I am not ready for that yet. I also dont want them in the normal enclosure. If they do give birth I have a friend with a medium sized bearded dragon and I would give the nymphs to them as food. If the females appear to be pregnant could I move them to one of those cricket bins that they sell for live crickets at the pet store? I dont want a storage tub or anything just a temporary holding area. Like a baby room. If I see them actively giving birth would it be okay to lift them up and put them in a cricket bin? Should I get some kind of scooping utensil and take her and the bedding into the new container? Is it even safe for the nymphs to be seperated from their mother right after birth? Even if they are going to be for food I don't want them to be mistreated if that makes any sense. Depending on the possibility/functionality of this system I would get a male. Not any time soon but one day. I've been in love with Madagascar Hissing Roaches since I was a small child and I saw them at an educational insect fair and I've been doing research on having them as pets for a long time. I have many more questions but this is my biggest concern. please note that I have not purchased any hissers yet, I want everything set up and all questions answered before I do. I want to make sure I'm as prepared as possible to give these lovely creatures the best life possible.
  8. My first Eupolyphaga sinensis nymphs appeared! I managed to get some photographs of the 2 day old nymphs. They must have eaten already, as their intestines got dark. They are about 3mm / 0.12 inch in length. The ootheca hatched after about 6-7 weeks (at constant 28C / 83F).
  9. Sitting by the vivarium, thought I'd share a pic of chow time, or to make a laboured insect joke "grubs up" . . .(embarrassed silence, winces).
  10. Hi, I have my peppered roaches since January 2015, and they matured in March 2015, they started breeding and i saw that the females have oothecae in June but i haven't seen any nymphs yet. So my question is how long does it takes to give a birth ? Thank you
