possible misidentification?

While browsing a book entitled Cockroach, by Marion Copeland I found this picture (attached). I went and scanned it with the schools scanner. It says it's a Madagascan hissing cockroach, and indeed it looks like one. I noticed however that the front tibia seemed to be spined like a sand roach. Am I just seeing things or are there hissers designed to bury in the sand (or whatever)? I haven’t seen that many different kinds of hissers before but it seemed odd to me. I was just curious…

It is a Macropanesthia. Look at the front leg spines. The two do look a lot alike to a non-proffessional, though.
