Carrots have a better nutritional value for roaches or people. I happen to like the jicama added to salads and whatnot, but the price for me is more expensive than carrots, so for less nutritional value I see no point. Maybe there's a different nutrient in that stuff that carrots don't have, and the roaches needed it. Who knows? Maybe it smells better to them. Its sweet flavor comes from the oligofructose inulin (also called fructo-oligosaccharide). Jicama is high in vitamins C, A and B, along with calcium and phosphorus" So it has everything a roach needs (water, fructoses, calcium and phosphorus).
