Drooling All Around

Recommended Posts

So, I was perusing the web for cockroach pics, and I found this guy's photo album, and, all I can say is "WOW!"

Kudos to this "artour_a" for taking these amazing pictures.

Now we just need to get these into the hobby, especially that second "orange desert roach" (too bad it's Australian, we'll never get it).

hell i would settle for more of the roach from central and south America and i imagine they must be easier to import than from Australia

Well, of course I would be happy to see any new roaches enter the hobby; it's just that the orange one is absolutely stunning, as well as many other Australian species ( Polyzosteria mitchelli, for example). It would be great to get some more in from down south, though. We just gotta find the right people with the right connections, that's all ;) .

Now THAT would be one heck of a trip!

On a related note, I found some other amazing looking species, that we need to add to the "to import" list (I tried to restrict it to ones with reliable ID's):

Petasodes dominicana

Bush Cockroaches, Polyzosteria limbata

Cucaracha (Giant Cockroach) <--- (reminds me of some sort of female B. dubia with a disproportional pronotum)

Native Cockroach

Cape Mountain Cockroach

Brown Cockroach

(note that none of these pics are mine, and they belong to their respective uploaders)

If anyone else knows of any other awesome species that need to be in culture, feel free to post them.

Ellipsidion humerale & Methana marginalis are absolutely stunning. The name Methana scares me though...exactly why was that name given? Conjures up visions of a truly horrible defensive smell..
