Volvox now a plant?

This doesn't relate to arthropods, but I read on wikipedia that volvox belongs to the kingdom plantae. I always thought that it belonged to kingdom protista. Is this right? Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvox_aureus

I actually went on multiple websites that claimed it was a protozoan:

Well, the deal with protista is that it's literally a group for whatever does't fit into the existing groups. There is no evolutionary connection between anything in protista that unify them. I believe there is a movement to abolish the kingdom and add its members into the kingdoms that they are more closely related to, assuming they amend the qualifications for the kingdoms in question.

Also, protozoan is not the same thing as protist.

I think it depends on who you ask or book you reference. They've been put in Volvovida as protists (by zoologists) and Volvocales as green algae (by botantists). You also have to remember that some books and papers are old and peole are constantly shuffing animals and plants around to new orders and families.

I've heard a phycologist call them algae, so that's what I'm going with.

Thanks for the info. I was in a rush when I did this, and didn't even think about protist vs protozoan :)
