Paulie Bleeker
i was on bugs in cyberspace and saw he's advertising a "roach jelly". anyone got experience with this? is it the same as regular jelly?
lecole4
It looks like a Japanese product they use for their pet rhino and stag beetles! I think the romanization is "konchuu zerii" or just "bug jelly." Never used it before, myself, but it looks interesting!
Salmonsaladsandwich
I think it's just bananas, honey and brown sugar mixed with gelatin and a mold inhibitor. Nothing special about it, except that it's probably convienant to use. I've noticed that roaches like sweet things- whenever I paint brown sugar moth bait on trees in dry pine- oak woodland, dozens of parcoblatta nymphs are usually the first insects to find it- even though it's several feet above the ground. I tried feeding brown sugar to my dubias and they seem to like it too.
Forcep
Those are mostly Japanese products specialized on beetles, sometimes additional proteins are added for female beetle adults. Sure roaches will eat it anyway.
Acro
It's different from regular jelly, because it's made for insects! I've never used roach jelly for my roaches, but I have given them left over beetle jelly and they enjoy it.
Vonnie
I've actually had a similar "candy" packaged the same exact way and of the same consistency. I cant recall where they were from but they were definitely foreign. And pretty tastey too. I figure if I can eat them my roaches would.
