  1. They appear to be a beetle mimic perhaps. They remind me of a beetle that has just landed and hasn’t yet folded its wings up. I wonder if there are any similar looking beetles in there native range? These look a good choice for a large jar with a “bean sprouting lid” then.

  3. So I found an article about white eyed Americans being more aggressive to non white eyed individuals. Have you noticed any behavioral differences in this species? I have recently became an Associate Certified Entomologist and I am interested in doing some person research. The white eyed mutation might be something worth looking into.
  4. I have a 2.5 gallon glass aquarium and I’m looking for idea to make or buy a roach appropriate lid. I know I can buy a metal screen top from the pet store. These however don’t set on tight and rust easily. If I go with a non climber they are ok but I’m wanting something more secure. Unless you know of any “terrarium” examples that are worth buying. This would be for my office so they would need to look attractive.
  5. Those are impressive. Extinct in the wild is another I’d love to have.
  6. Yes, I agree. I’ve had many of the different types over the years, but I have not had.Corydiids yet. So I’ll probably go ahead and get some because that group is always been one of my favorites as far as the looks go.
  7. Hmm pet dirt probably not the best idea then. I’m thinking about a good display species for my office. My years of exterminating finally got me a promotion to management. I have also been thinking about assassin bugs.
  8. I Have been off of the forums for a while but decided to pop back in and see what is new. My had gotten out of indoor pet keeping and was down to my last colony of pantanals. Unfortunately they just quit breeding and died out. I am thinking about acquiring something new to keep at my office. Any suggestions? The white eyed Chinese medicinal is catching my eye right now.
  9. As a 20 year pest control technician, this scares me. Spraying fungus spores to kill bed bugs!?! As a pet insect keeper this horrifies me. They say it’s a strain that only kills bed bugs. I did learn something about these fungi. You must keep the spores below 90 degrees. Above 90 the spores die. So possibly heat could be used as a treatment to kill this in a roach colony? Worth trying if you get it. I guess the question is how hot can roaches survive that the spores can’t?
  10. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?sid=davidg2143&isRefine=true I have ordered from this guy three different times over the past 5 years. Always sends excellent specimens. For some odd reason they get from his house in Oregan to my door which is all the way on the other end of the United States faster than I can ship a letter to my next-door neighbor
  11. Thanks! Looks like keeping won’t be an issue. Hopefully They’ll start reproducing before they die out. I got mostly larger ones so it looks like they won’t live too much longer. And hopefully the feeder guppies don’t eat all the babies. I think I’ll add some more leaves for food and cover.
  12. I just collected some aquatic isopods from a local creek. Any tips on keeping them? Will they survive at room temperature (70-78)? I am planning on adding them to an established wild type guppy tank. It has duckweed, java moss, rocks, driftwood and leaves.
