  1. Since I started this thread I've gone back a few more times and found a few more specimens. There seems to be 3 color forms for the adult females. 'White" color form adult female: 'normal' color form adult female: Three color forms of adult females : 'white', 'normal' and 'intermediate' color forms:
  2. I do actually. I found a few in highlands county,fl and hope to start a colony.
  3. Welcome to the forum! I love any of the Blaberus species.
  4. Yes it's just the adults that you really have to worry about escaping. If you have a good lid for the 20 gallon then you should be good to go. Although I'd only keep then in the air tight containers (with air holes of course). I have found P. Nivea in areas with lots of large oak trees. They come to my lights often. If you are willing to spend some money for a light you can pick up a bug zapper at Lowes. It was the 40 watt unit and I sawed off the plastic housing, cut the - and + wires going to the metal grid and wrapped them separately in electrical tape, and removed the metal grid. It attracts so many species of insects every night.
  5. Very interesting Bronze beetle, I've never seen this one in my area.
  6. Welcome! Be careful with P. nivea since they can be escape artists. I would get one of those waterproof containers, then cut a hole into it and glue a piece of screen mesh to it. Have you found any P. Nivea locally? I seen them often when I set up black lights outside to catch beetles.
  7. Thanks man! I'll try that and post my results.
  8. That's a good idea, I never thought about the screen bottom. Where exactly is the iron mountain in Clermont? Nothing came up on google.
  9. I was actually not too far from lake placid. I've also been thinking about using pitfall traps. The only problem is the rain and I live two hours away so checking them would be a pain . I'm gonna try to look for these guys closer to Orlando. I've been looking at some good spots in Clermont.
  10. Very nice beetle! I see these often under pine bark.
  11. Thanks for the advice. Went out yesterday to Highlands county and found two specimens!
  12. Read a thread about this species and how to find them so I took a trip to Highlands County to try my luck. My first mistake was arriving at noon. I cannot begin to describe how bad the heat was. I started in a small patch of woods and on my first scoop of sand I found my first male A. floridensis. Two more minutes and found a nymph. I thought they were going to be easy to find but that was not the case. Nothing else for the entire trip. It was extremely hot out there and I had to keep taking breaks every 5 minutes. Also I was using the wrong kind of sifter that had ¼” holes which were too large. I’m also not sure but perhaps the heat or my digging could have drove other roaches deeper into the sand. But at least I was able to confirm their existence in the area I was searching in. Lots of agricultural and residential development in the area may continue to cause a decline in numbers for this species.
