    Oniscus asellus growth time

    maybe six months

    Hormetica strumosa

It will be difficult to come up with something neater than white Panchlora, not that you can't do it.

    Hormetica strumosa

That is a very handsome looking species but I have Lucihormetica males with horns that are as large.

    CA absolute insect ban

I didn't say there were no cool bugs, and yes if the regulations are on the books you take some risk catching or displaying CA inverts, even if the same species is from another state and you don't have iron-clad evidence. I'm glad they don't have that in my state; I would be arrested when the see the massive collection of dead insects stuck to the front of my car.

    CA absolute insect ban

No. Fish and Game is about wild animals and there are surprisingly not that many cool insects in CA.

    CA absolute insect ban

Fish and game claims all authority over the animals living outdoors in your state.

    L exotica (interest poll)

They are not too difficult but they are a bit different from standard terrestrial isopods. The biggest difference is the babies need to have their own area to grow up.

    Gathering data for rare beetles

There is an exception to every generalization or common experience. There are many good methods for breeding and things that kill various inverts but you'd never find every possibility.

    Cotinis worries

Adult Gymnetis have a really cool nutty smell but the larvae are odorless, sounds like spoiled substrate or something else in the cage.

    Porcellio ornatus high yellow

I'm wrapping up an article on these for I-M. Anyone have any interesting info on them I might not know? For those who aren't familiar, this is one of the big Spanish species that is becoming common in the hobby. Of course the coloration is the primary attraction.

    All-male A. tesselata colony?

I've always thought my colony with multiple males and females was peaceful.
  12. They are D.tityus which is easy to see by the horn structure of the male. If you're not setting up substrate the larvae will eat the female probably won't lay eggs. You'd have to find a local tree-hole habitat to put them in if she did.

    The insect-site shortage

It is true many other countries have many more spectacular animals available due to less intrusive government. However, I think it has been a long time since it was true that those hobbies were more vigorous in terms of participation. I originally put up the E & A websites because there was nothing of any use in the late 1990's on the web for invert enthusiasts. One day I'll let the site fall off the web when I'm tired of paying for it as there's plenty of interest on the boards and all the facebook groups are free to host and there are plenty.

    Unique domino

I had a colony with more than 60% showing this trait after a number of years. I figured I'd have shortly isolated it but poor luck or management resulted in probable complete collapse.

Can you guys help me Identify this fossil?

An isopod has a head, 7 body segments, and then smaller abdominal segments. I see maybe five segments and a head with no legs or abdomen so there's just not enough there.

Well guys no more pics from me.

I wish all the pictures could be hosted here more than anyone, but the web hosting company charges insane amounts of money for what little storage we currently have. Members currently have to link to other picture hosting sites. This works well except when the post gets old and the links no longer work.

    Leaf list for Isopods

I've fed them all sorts of decaying leaves from trees and bushes, even tulips and elephant plants, and haven't had a problem yet.

    Porcellio silvestrii

I kept them at my normal cooler temps (low 70s) for a year with no losses but no immatures. On advice that they breed when it is warm I moved them to high 70s and after a month they nearly all died.
  20. Allpet Roaches

    Porcellio silvestrii

My experience following advice on the net on the new species has led to some losses and poor to no reproduction, but maybe my idea of dry and warm are entirely different. I finally am getting a bunch of very tiny ones.

    Cleaner crews for assassins

They will eat the isopods after a few days or so unless the assassubs aren't eating due to molting or previous feeding.

    newbie but nerding out

You should get a male tiger hisser then. They look amazing.

    2 questions

I think you could check on them all the time without causing a problem unless you physically harm them by dropping, smashing, etc.
  24. Allpet Roaches

It is a very big island and they do not fly.

    B giganteus

This species never does as well as the smaller ones in the genus which is why it usually costs quite a bit more (still just a few bucks). In my experience small numbers are caused by less than regular care or trading off too many.
