Greetings! Yes, reptiles and arachnids seem to lead many into roaches (myself included). I've had tortoises and a snake, but mostly tarantulas, cats, dogs, birds, and aquarium fish. Do you still have lots of the "creepy stuff" you mentioned at your home (lizards, snakes, etc)? How do you like the Panchlora? I've considered them, but I'm more into handleable creatures like the A. tesselata you also keep. I bought my dubias as feeders, but like them as pets, too. Go figure! Anyways, welcome... You've come to the right place!
That's cool to find so many at once. I hope it helps keep your interest strong and your spirits up, especially after your recent loss with Mr House. It proves that you're keeping them all "just right," too. My Aeluropoda insignis surprised me how fast they could reproduce. They went from two to tons within a few months! I imagine most hissers are about the same! Congrats!
That's awful (well, not the part about your wife)! It's hard when a pet dies, even if that relationship isn't fully understood by others. I have a hard time feeding my roaches off to my other pets (tarantulas) because of the time and care I provide them. About Mr. House...What kind of roach was he? I'm guessing he was a hisser. Interesting name for a pet, too.Was his full name Robert Edwin House or named after that individual (Fallout)? That's the first thing that came to my mind. I guess, like you stated, the good news is that your wife has become more interested in your "strange" hobby. Yes, people can even become attached to something as "odd" as a roach. I find them fascinating and endearing, personally.
