  1. well, mostly because I have a really low count of lobster roaches left. The more I think about this the more I'm inclined to order another 1k lobster roaches instead of trying to go with the turkistans. They just seem too fast and my beardie doesn't really like chasing her food around that much.
  2. I'm debating on switching from Lobster roaches to Turkistans to feed my Bearded Dragon. She has a voracious appetite and I have managed to deplete what was once a lobster roach colony over 1000 strong. Now there are a few hundred adults and some nymphs that are too small for her to eat. So she's been going to town on the adults which obviously does not bode well for the growth of the colony. Keep the lobsters or switch to turks? money is a key factor in my decision. from www.thebugpros.com I can get 1k turks for $17.50 and from www.aaronpauling.com I can get 1k lobsters for $29 edit: just now noticed I had already posted on this thread. sorry for the redundancy. regardless though... suggestions on keeping lobsters or switching to turks?
  3. Are you saying that it IS ok to mix roach species? I'm trying to figure out what to do with my lobster roaches too. I have managed to deplete what was once a colony of 1000+ because my bearded dragon eats so much (although she's sick now so who knows what that'll mean...) I found a place with incredible deals on turkistans and am thinking of making the switch from lobsters to turks. you think i could just throw 1 or 2 thousand turks in with about the 200 or 300 lobster adults I have left? Or would it be a better investment to just get another bin for them? Then I guess the lobster roaches still remaining could just breed for a few months and get the colony back on track. Ideas/Suggestions appreciated. Sorry if I stole this thread.
  4. Hey guys, (I accidentally posted this in the wrong discussion section I think so I'm moving it here) I'm new to this forum (was shown this website on the BeardedDragon.org forum) and have a lot of roach raising questions. I currently have a bin of lobster roaches. I started off with 1000 but the population has greatly dwindled. I am now having to feed the adults off to my bearded dragon. Basically here is my question. Because I am a poor college student, I need to be as economical as I can when it comes to caring for my Bearded Dragon (obviously without cutting corners though). I know that I can get 1000 lobster roaches for $29 at http://www.aaronpauling.com I also know I can get 1000 turkistan roaches for $17.50 at http://www.thebugpros.com I'm wondering what people here think I should do. I do have an under the tank heater for the lobster roaches and a 150 watt light (unfortunately it's a white light but the bin does stay dark-ish) to heat them up. (The UTH is the smallest one zoo med makes which is the only one they say works with plastic tubs. Anyone know of a stronger UTH that wont melt the plastic? the 10-20 gallon size one perhaps?) So basically here are my list of questions 1) Should I continue working with my lobsters and try to build up that colony or switch to turkistans? 2) Is it true that an adult turkistan is about half the size of an adult lobster roach? (if that's the case, then it's not worth it i dont think) 3) What are some pros and cons to either species? 4) Is there any way that I can put 1 or 2 thousand turks in with 200 or so adult lobsters that I have remaining? (that's if i decide to go the turkistan route) thanks a lot for your help, Brian

  6. Personally, I ordered 1000 lobster roaches and 2oz of the Roach Barrier from Aaron Pauling at www.aaronpauling.com (he's a great guy to deal with by the way) The barrier he sold me works great. I haven't had a single lobster roach escape yet and I dont even keep a lid on the bin. My problem is getting them to breed more quickly... guess I have to take that to a different thread.
  7. How do you have escapees with a non-climbing/non-flying species? I currently have a colony of lobster roaches and I dont even have a lid on the plastic bin and have had no escapees. My colony is quickly depleting though as my bearded dragon is tearing through roaches daily so I'm trying to decide if I want to get turkistans or just get more lobsters. I found a website where I can get 1000 turkistans for $17.50 plus shipping. I also know that at http://www.aaronpauling.com I can get 1000 lobster roaches for $29. This is my first post on this site and I am very intrigued with this new source for cheap turkistans I found http://www.thebugpros.com/1-3kprices.htm I dont know whether those guys are legit or not but if they are... maybe I'd even think of getting 2k turkistans. again, how do they escape if they can't climb or fly? also, do they require as much/more/or less heat than the lobsters? can lobster roaches and turkistan roaches be kept together??
