  1. for some reason i have had serious issues keeping my colonies up this last 6 to 8 weeks

i know its been a highly talked about topic this last few weeks and i am not the only one with the problem

everything is spot on in there enclosure and i feed the best possible foods to them and dont use animal protein my only question is can they be overheated? my only thing left to see is if they can overheat

in the daytime they are in my attic which hits probly 100F and i use a spaceheater at night which is set to 95F but really runs the room around 91F

is it possible these deaths are from overheating? ive noticed the dubia were crouding the bottom of the bin even going as far as using the open space in the front and back of the bins to lay on...

  2. What do you think about the effects of dwarfing can it be reversed i.e buy dubia from supplier around 1 inch than feed them well and give them space and thell be good size females or the damage is done by the time i get them

  3. ive debated for long time over two things

1.whether water crystals kill roaches or its just a fluke with my colonies everytime i supply water crystals i swear i see deaths in the bins ?

    2. whole or baby carrots? does it really matter because these damn baby carrots dont last and there very expensive when you have the dubia ammounts i do

  4. no and the oranges i fed were also in the other colonies no issues there along with the dry food

the only thing that was changed was the new egg crates and i did also remove the frass

the only other thing i can think of was there might have been a few dead dubia smelling up the colony i.e that horrible smell maybe knocked them off balance

i also turned the fan off in that room but yet again other colonies were just fine -.- im baffled here

  5. yeah i use dog food as of now now im trying to cut cost while improving on quality and staying all natural i was thinking of maybe some wheat bran and maybe a few other small things but there isent really a set list

what kind of oats do the dubia seem to prefer im assuming there all cut from the same cloth or machine in this case..

  6. so im trying to compile good list of animal(reptile) friendly ingredients for a super healthy gutload so far ive looked at bee pollen, kelp, oats, wheat bran and thats about it seems boring what other grains or products other than animal protein do people use ?

  7. it has seemed to slow down whatever this is im assuming maybe just a bad batch maybe i mean i got in 2000 and had probly 50 to 60 die only 4 today and the odor has went away bigtime ill keep updating this but im curious to know why the dubia were turning black after they died ...

  8. yeah im seeing them mount the flipped dubia and not during a molt

ive noticed a strong odor today found about 20 black dubia with a horrid smell i aired out two of the bins and probly will try to see if that helps the issue or find the underlying problem i did recently add new roachs last week

  9. yeah ive got 14 out today over 3 bins i removed 50 male adult today came back 6 hours later to find 6 more within 3 bins on there backs including a adult female which really got me ticked off -.-

im not finding any logical reason for why this is happening i dont think diet would do this ...

  10. yeah im not to worried about the breeding as much as the cannibalism i see about 4 sets of nymphs in there im thinking of keeping oatmeal, cheerios in there as a starch with dog food for the extra days

  11. anyone have any ideas for dubia flopping over and getting there heads eaten?

im seeing dubia turned over and than getting attacked at one point and having there heads taken off no body being eaten (i have seen shells though)

so i up'd protein intake to three times a week and more citrus but i was thinking and came to the thought citrus might be putting the metabolism so high they are cannibalizing? am i getting somewhere with this thought? i normally split with collards and carrots but my large bag carrots went bad in 2 days and collards are out right now so thats all there liquids at the moment

the bins are spot on temp humidity not overstocked at all understocked if anything i split the one colony down into three put some with my adults to get them moving around more and made another new colony most of the issues are still in that "first" colony

nothing has changed other than diet with those things i mentioned
