Huntsman
I started feeding B. (or S) lateralis to my tarantulas a few days ago, and noticed that the females in particular - at least I think they're the females! - emit a sticky liquid when captured. Sweet smelling, much like over-ripe fruit, the liquid is obviously some form of defence, and I was wondering if it is indeed, only the females that emit it? I think it smells more offensive than that (at least to me). But I do find lat's to be the one roach that smells the most... keeping them has given me thoughts of buying an air purifier for the room... As far as only females ( ? ) I don't know. Sticky, a little.
Roachsmith
Mine don't seem to smell but they do have the sticky stuff. Maybe I don't have enough of them to be smelly. The only smelly roaches I have are the madeirans. They only smell when I'm disturbing them though, usually during feeding time. They smell kind of like cigarrettes. They squeak too
