LyleL
I am wondering if anyone out there knows much about the life history and ecology of Therea petiveriana. They mimic Tortoiseshell beetles. But specifically what Genus/species are they mimicing? What of their natural history in their native India? Is Therea petiveriana a widespread species? Or localized in a particular region of India. Zephyr
http://www.unexco.com/furbeet.jpg Whatever beetle on the right is, I think that may be one species they mimic.
Ralph
I see what you mean by that, but the carpet beetle would be much too small to mimic. They are only a couple of millimeters long and aren't tortoise beetles anyway. I always thought they looked somewhat like a pie-dish beetle, but I'm not sure if those are from India.
