maintaining humidity

Second Instar
i have tried plastic wrap over my screen lid with a 1 inch strip for ventilation on the hot side which did not work. this only increased heat, raising it to 28 C/85 F while the heat mat is off (it kept heating up to over 35f, so i have to keep plugging in and unplugging it. i could buy a thermostat, theyre just so expensive) and the humidity dropping down to 50% within minutes of misting as it always does. i removed that and now i've covered the entire lid in aluminum foil and cut out a square on the hot side. it seems to still be dropping quickly, so if this doesn't work, please give me tips while i sort out buying a glass lid or plastic tub.

I'm curious what substrate you use. This is the glass tank with the lid configuration you describe above?
Also what is humidity in the room where the roaches are kept?

i have no idea what the humidity is in my room since i dont have a hygrometer for that, im sorry. yes it is. this is the ZooMed brand repitsoil+coco fiber+sphagnum moss mix i've been using ever since i started keeping roaches.

50% will still work for a lot of roaches. Sounds like the room may be taking away the humidity, especially if you are using a furnace to warm the house.
