Zephyr
My dad found this in our garage and I cracked it open. My guess is a tarantula (spider) hawk wasp. Any other guesses or ID's? http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/4116/img0587ub2.jpg
PeriplanetaAmericana
My guess is a tarantula (spider) hawk wasp. Me too. It had many food for its "babys"!
mikeee
[ looks like a wasp nest, was it a clay or mud honey comb looking cluster before you broke it up?
Tleilaxu
Any particular reason you had to kill three wasps? That nest looks like a mud dauber nest.
arachyd
What shape was the nest? Jug-shaped would be a potter wasp, tubes would indicate mud daubers. Personally, I'd much rather have the spiders in my yard. They are more beneficial to me, my garden and my fruit trees.
