Zephyr
Everytime I check on my surinam roaches, I notice that some of the nymphs are shiny on the front part of their bodies and dull on the very end of the abdomen. It's almost as if there's a perfect line between the shiny and dim parts. What's up with this?
Allpet Roaches
That's just the way they are. I don't know that there are any theories on why.
Zephyr
Could it be a secretion? The only advantage I can think of involving having half of your body being dull is that if you're found and you decide to burrow, a predator can't see your movements as easily since you're not as shiny... Maybe, but there are many burrowers that are shiny or dull all over.
