SteveB
hey folks. the other day i was feeding my dubia colony. i noticed a lot of the males wings were chewed up. they always have food and water and aren't overcrowded. could my cleaning crew be doing this ? i have dermestid beetles and larva in there. they get plenty of protein w/ the fish pellets i add to their bowl. these are feeders for my tarantula so I'm not really concerned just wondering why it would happen. lovebugfarm
I havent had issues with my dubias wings before so I cant say directly what it is but I think you maybe right about the dermestids. They can turn hunter at times.

MassExodus
My females chew on my males wings, and chase them off. They stir up the whole colony when they do it. Seen it several times.
lovebugfarm
Thats really interesting I havnt seen any wing biteing in my group. Do you think its a moisture issue or number of males? I keep mine at roughly one male to 5 females. If there were more males do you think I would be seeing wing biteing?
MassExodus
I'm almost certain it has to do with the ratio of males to females.if there's only 4 or 5 males in my colony, their wings stay pristine.

lovebugfarm
Well theres always the plastic bag and freezer. Better yet give away the extra males to a local reptile rescue. Oh or selling on craigslist.
Allpet Roaches
Sometimes they just seem to get a taste for it.
