  1. What's composting? Idk what that means 🤔
  2. Really? 😮 well I still have the boxes 😃 the other day I got rid of 2 king size milkyways that were kept in the fridge but expired on 2020, sometimes I find old stuffs that I forgot to eat for example all the oats I have for the roaches expired already but they eat it and nothing bad has happened yet but to be sure I won't feed sugary things to my hissers 👍
  3. But those spawns of hell fly 😖 I've gotten so many fly to my face and into my food that they're in my blacklist 👎 and they've been breeding in my dubia/lobster bins reducing the dubia/lobster numbers they're just a pest to me 😑
  4. No they're not 😣 unless you mean as feeders 🙄
  5. Hello, last year between december-january I did a massive cleanup cause american cockroaches built a a colony inside my dubia bin, thanks to that my dubia population decreased I remember when I put the roaches back in the bin all cleaned up they were like 100-150 and spotted only 1 male, they've been breeding fine cause I've seen new babies since then but I saw american cockroach babies as well which is annoying is there a way to get rid of them? or do I have to do the cleaning once a year for the rest of my life? I've seen american cockroaches in my lobster bin as well and in the past I did a massive cleaning twice with my hissers to get rid of american cockroaches the only bin that has been spared is the red runner bin if that bin was compromised it would be a pain in the ass since they look alike when they are small, when I say a massive cleaning, I mean I put all the roaches I can into an empty box then replace the whole floor/cardboard/egg cartons and clean the bin completly, removing/killing if I have to american cockroaches then putting the original roaches into the bin, it is really annoying and takes me like 6-7 hours approx, so why after massive cleanups they still breed inside? how can I get rid of them? they get to the point that they breed way more than my current roaches and they decrease the other roaches populations I don't like that 😡
  6. I used to keep mine in a 10 gallon tank with coconut substrate and egg carton they were 7 after awhile the whole tank was full, some almost escaped so I had to get a 45 gallon plastic bin and get rid of the coconut substrate, since then I've only used cardboard for the floor/bottom and square egg cartons they've been breeding for years sometimes they'd breed a lot they'd overcrowd the whole bin but since I feed them once every 5 weeks they don't overcrowd like they used to but I still have a lot probably over 500 hundred of all sizes so I don't know what's the issue here cause mine have been years without moist and they're fine
  7. Okay thanks guess I'll throw the sugary cereals to the trash then, I'm not planning to eat them and I'm sure the sugar would harm the dogs as well
  8. Even though I no longer keep reptiles I still have my roach colonies (hissing roaches, dubia roaches, lobster roaches, red runner roaches) currently I feed my roaches carrots, potatoes and oats to keep the colony alive. I have some sealed box cereals that expired recently, my question is can I feed my roaches the cereals? or will they harm/kill them? the cereals are a few months expired but the boxes are new & sealed, the cereals are: frosted flakes, cornpops, cocoa krispies, regular cheerios and corn flakes I've been wanting to know if they are safe or unsafe to feed the roaches but I can't find answers online so I came here to ask the experts
  9. I have a question can I feed my roaches turtle food pellets and parakeet food blend? is it safe? I currently give them quaker oats and before that dog/cat food but I'm not sure they can eat turtle food and parakeet food so let me know 🤔
  10. Hissing roach, Red Runner, Lobster & Dubia
  11. What happens if I stop giving my roaches vegetables and only feed them oats/dog food? would they still survive and breed?
  12. I got a few that got into my dubia's bin and noticed at least 14-16, I changed my dubia's egg flats recently but I did not clean the whole container otherwise I would've killed em in the spot cause those things can ruin your home if you get infested so I'll clean the container next time they need new egg flats and to your question I doubt they'd harm you unless you let them touch/walk in your mouth/eyes as long as the roaches don't get to your face you'll be okay but I wouldn't keep those inside my home perhaps a shed in the backyard or a treehouse would do in case some escape flying they won't eat your food and bite your wires/clothes
  13. My lobster's bin vaseline is melted but my hisser's isn't, I got my red runner's bin on top of lobsters due to space with a slightly mini space that would fit a notebook, all of my bins have huge holds in the lids with screen mesh attached to it I recently cleaned my lobster's bin after a few years the bin was heavy due to roach poop well other than my hisser's the rest of the roaches were not meant to be pets I got them to feed my reptiles/critters I haven't gotten a new pet since summer 2016 due to $ issues so there's nobody to feed them to but I can't just let them die so I keep keeping them alive and to your question I've been keeping them for years they're not a problem except the space issue I got a lot of egg flats stored, if I needed cardboard I can go to costco they don't care if I take a shopping cart full of cardboard boxes, I feed them oats/carrots/potatoes & sometimes dog food when I said monetary & time investment I meant getting the bins and the roaches to start the colonies like for example I remember getting a few dubias for like $20 at the reptile store and my red runners were like $25 from a dubia site that no longer carries red runners was lucky to get them at the time plus the 45-50 gallon bins and the time waiting so they could breed enough to feed my beardies it was a lot of effort Once I tried selling my hissers to some guy cause they were breeding like crazy and the bin was overcrowded but since I had no way to transport them I didn't take them to him if someone rich offered me a good offer for all the colonies including what I paid for the bins I'd take it just to retake the space they occupy while I keep a few hissers as pets but my roaches aren't rare doubt anyone would want them so bad to pay a good price regardless I have so many I could have like 500 tarantulas and 4 bearded dragons and still there would be roaches left to eat for more critters
  14. Never heard of that, last time I fed them there was lots of males trying to escape with their wings due to the heat
  15. That's odd, I've had mine for years and they never chewed anything plus the vaseline keeps them at bay the only ones who like to chew the egg flats are my lobsters
  16. I checked Home depot's and lowe's plastic racks none of them fit my bins, steel racks are expensive and heavy so right now due to space I had to put 3 bins stacked one of them had pretrolium jelly melted I'm not sure if it was cause there's not enough ventilation or the weather If I could have my 4 bins in a rack it'd save space see the only reason I keep my roaches is cause it was a monetary & time investment since I no longer keep reptiles/critters there's nobody to feed the roaches to, for awhile I've been feeding my roaches twice a month regardless they keep breeding a lot those cinder block shelves seem like a good idea but we have earthquakes here so I don't think it'd be safe to stack 4 to 5 blocks in each corner I was hoping someone here would tell me a specific brand of racks according to my bin measures 😐
  17. Hello recently I got some plastic shelves but my bins won't fit, I want to know if you guys can give me a specific brand of shelves I can use, my bins are 18 inches tall so what I need is spacing between shelves to be between 18 and 20 inches, I got 4 bins being used an 1 empty so a 4 tier shelf unit would do but a 5 would be alright too, It's been years that I have my bins side to side in different places but I need the space to put new furniture the stacking would solve the problems I know some people buy wood and build their own shelves but I don't have the tools or knowledge to build something like that I want something that can be bought with easy assembly I'd prefer plastic over steel but I'm open to all suggestions as long as It's not building the shelves from scratch I'll leave the links of the bins if you guys want to know the exact measurements https://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-19481004-Titanium-Latches-45-Gallon/dp/B002C4KYFS/ and https://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-Gal-Stacker-Tote-Stadium/dp/B077ZFDC6X/ Mine do not have wheels btw
  18. I'm thinking to shrink my colonies because I no longer keep reptiles & invertebrates like in the past so can you guys help me telling me each roach's money worth for dubia, red runner and lobster? I'm not planning to sell by bulk but would consider 100 to 500 if some guy asked me I have no idea how many roaches I got left but lobster & dubia they seem like A LOT since you guys are the experts I figured you'd tell me how much 1 roach is worth or 50, 100, 200, 500 possibly bulks for each species
  19. The reason I have big bins, I bought them at big lots cheap, those same bins in walmart at normal price are pricy but these had a discount, yes I have lots of feeders but it hasn't gotten to the point I can't handle it, the ones that were breeding like crazy were my hissers right now the colony is lower than before because the screen mesh wasn't secured enough and red runners got inside the hissers bin they bred inside and must have caused stress or they probably ate the egg sacks now I have roughly 400+ hissers while before I had like 2500+ so that's actually good I already secured the hissers bin there was one small bin I wanted before, they had it at big lots but when I went a week afterwards they must've sold it cause I couldn't find it, I figured I saved $$$ getting those and I'm sure big lots still has lots of them if I go but at the moment I don't need a new bin, right now dubia are the ones that I have A LOT, got enough dubia to feed 25 bearded dragons or 100 tarantulas last time I cleaned the bin and changed the egg flats few months ago it was insane seeing so many dubia
  20. I've alwaus used vaseline for my hissers and it works flawlessly, in summer it kinda melts but still they won't cross it over, whenever I clean the enclosure I use paper towels to remove the vaseline that way it won't be messy after you clean the enclosure
  21. That one is too small right now I'm using these for my hissers/red runners and lobsters Bin for my dubia I'm using this Bin wish I could take pictures but I have a crappy old camera like I mentioned before the small red runners must have escaped where the clippers are in the corners, those green clippers cause the screen mesh I put on top It's well sealed with tape
  22. What are those? like glue traps? I can't have glue traps on the floors or walls of my room cause the dogs might try to lick/eat them the other day some of my dogs were eating a dead periplaneta americana corpse
