Hi, so my last Polyphaga saussurei died today. I decided to look through substrate so i knew i hadnt missed any oothecas and... i found some ( 7 ) . How can I maximize the probability of them hatching?

Hello all you Roach enthusiast I was wondering if any of you could clarify how the Turkestan cockroach handle their Ootheca. I know that some species hold on to the Ootheca until they are almost ready to hatch while others just leave them around the place willy nilly. It is not easy to get a clear-cut answer on the internet regarding this so I hope you can help me. If anyone here could help me id be overjoyed. 😊

Hi! Had to make an account specifically to post this because I'm a little confused... I'm really excited to say I'm (hopefully) going to have my first clutch of baby hissers! However, I caught my pregnant female laying an ootheca earlier. I initially panicked that it was some sort of parasite, as I was sure hissers were live bearing, but after some searching found out it was definitely an egg sac. She'd picked a very high and precarious place to do all this, so I kept an eye on her throughout the process (around an hour? I wasn't keeping time), but after leaving briefly to do something I came back to find she was just...pulling it back in?! None of the care/breeding sheets I've found seem to address this at all. They mention an ootheca, but note that the female keeps this inside her in order to livebear. She looks perfectly normal again now, and is acting fine, I'm just perplexed about the whole situation and was wondering if anyone has similar experience or perhaps an explanation as to why she would "pretend" to lay an ootheca. Thanks!

My babies are having babies! I was pleased to actually see one of my surinam roaches complete making her ootheca, while another one was just beginning. It's a beautiful thing to watch and I hope to snap some macro shots of the process next time. In the mean time, these are my first ootheca to care for. Does any one have any tips on how to care for them? Should I take them out of the enclosure? Can I put them in a separate enclosure and if so what to they need to survive? Basic questions I'm sure, but just like any new roach parent, I'm nervous and would like to get it right the first time. Thanks in advance for your help!
