RomanBuck
So to kind of understand this for me I think it is saying that if we have more space for females they will reproduce faster as there is minimal disturbances?
thesavageprojects
Females produce more when molested with antennas (or fake antenna). Apparently.
wodesorel
I think it's more of a - "I'm surrounded by other roaches who are calm and therefore there are no threats nearby, so it's really safe to have babies" type thing. Plus, safety in numbers. The one article I read about this said that if the fake antenna were frantic and pounding, rather than slow and gentle, that they didn't produce nymphs either, which makes sense since a female wouldn't want to produce young in an unsafe environment (frantic antenna mean panicking roaches) and then put herself at risk or waste the time and nutrients on a brood that isn't going to survive.
